Diagnosis: head profile smoothly rounded. Scales on both sides large, with minute spines. Lateral line with 46-52 scales. Colour: brownish with irregular darker markings; dark brown patches also on fins. Size: to about 12 cm SL.

Distribution: off Iceland and from Murman coast to Bay of Biscay.
