Eelgrass, a group of Angiosperms (flowering plants) of worldwide distribution found in protected inshore locales. Eelgrass belongs to the family Zosteracea. It grows in areas where there is abundant sunlight, and serves as both food and shelter for littoral communities. It is unusual because it lives and flowers while submerged.
