Generic name of bivalve shells belonging to the family Solenidae (Razor-shells), class Bivalvia, phylum Mollusca. The razor-shells are familiar to all through their similarity in shape to the old fashioned cut-throat razor. The shell is brittle, equivalve, inequilateral, beaks inconspicuous, at the anterior end; almost always elongate rectangular in outline with the length at least 4 or 5 times greater than the depth. Also specific name of Treadfinrockling, Onogadus ensis, family Gadidae.
