Subphylum of the phylum Chordata. The Agnatha are jawless vertebrates, lacking ventral fins; some with pectoral lobes but lacking dermal rays; notochord persistent; 1 or 2 semicircular canals. Many species are fossil. Living species of the class Cyclostomata are lampreys, slime eels and hagfishes.
