Diagnosis: lateral-line system: in examples of 3.1-4.3 cm SL, numbers of sensory papillae in rows 1, 8-13; 2, 6-10; ot, 17-24; os, 4-14; e, 36-53; y, 1-4; m, 0-3. Original scales ctenoid, replacement scales cycloid. Dl VI; D2 I + 11; A I + 9-10; P 15-16. Scales in lateral series 41-52. Vertebrae 27. Colour: pale brown, with fine reticulation becoming coarser on caudal peduncle; 5 conspicuous pale saddles across back; dark pectoral bar with bent anterior edge; broad pale band across nape with rear edge opposite posterior rim of opercle; head mottling not over branchiostegal membrane, without intense black spot in lower antcrior corner of opercle and only 2 dark bars radiating from lower border of orbit. Size: to 5.3 cm
Habitat: intertidal to offshore, probably within interstices of coralline nodules. Food: no data.
