Diagnosis: females with illicial length 35-45% SL; esca with 2 short, close-set, unpigmented, distally bifurcating papillae on anterior midline of bulb; compressed distal part of posterior appendage deeply cleft, basal part lightly pigmented in large specimens; 0-4 vomerine teeth; other characters in genus and key.

Distribution: all oceans; a single specimen, off Madeira, recorded from Clofnam area (see note to D. longicornis).
