Diagnosis: chin barbel present, but very small in some specimens. First dorsal fin with a relatively short elongated ray, little if any longer than rays in the second dorsal. Colour: oral cavity dark. Size: to about 15 cm SL.

Habitat: benthopelagic on the continental slope. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: caught at only a few localities in the sub-arctic and temperate north-eastern Atlantic.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
