Diagnosis: dorsal finrays 14 (13-15); anal finrays 13-14 (12); pecto finrays 15-17. Gillrakers 7 (6) + 1 + 12-14, total 20-22. AO 7 (6-8) + 2 (1-3), total 9 (8-11). Size: to 80 mm.

Habitat: high-oceanic, mesopelagic: day 600-800 m; night 40-175 (maximum abundance at 75-100 m). Food: no data. Reproduction: sexually mature from about 58 mm.

Distribution: Atlantic subtropical pattern (bisubtropical subpattern), between 41°-26° N (eastern sector) and 26°-31° S (western sector) and 13°-33° S (eastern sector). Elsewhere, Indian Ocean between 25° and 40° S, and Pacific between 30° and 40° S.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
