Diagnosis: body elongate. Snout rounded, with a moderate rostral hook reaching almost to vertical through front margin of eye, eyes on left side, fairly large, with a narrow space between them. Maxilla reaching back to hind part of lower eye. Dorsal finrays 99-101; anal finrays 78-79; caudal finrays 8. Eyed side with 1 (midlateral) lateral line, with 54-60 scales; 11 scales between lateral line and base of dorsal fin; no lateral line on blind side; scales ctenoid on both sides of body. Colour: eyed side uniform brown, blind side whitish. Size: to about 15 cm SL.
Habitat: benthic on continental shelf, at depths less than 15 m.
Distribution: eastern Mediterranean (coast of Israel and Egypt), as an immigrant. Elsewhere, Suez Canal, Red Sea.
