Diagnosis: lateral line system with sub-orbital row d continuous; transverse row 1 very oblique; 2 and 3 reaching orbit; row x1 ending anteriorly before pore b; pore a behind eye on course of oculoscapular canal. Nape scaled, cheek naked. Anterior nostril with triangular flap. Pectoral free rays moderately developed. Pelvic disc deeply emarginate, anterior membrane vestigial. Dl VI; D2 I + 14; A I + 13; P 20. Scales in lateral series 50-53. Colour: not recorded. Size: to 6.5 cm.

Habitat: coralline grounds, 25-40 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: western Mediterranean (Majorca and Melilla, Morocco) and Adriatic (Korcula, Yugoslavia).

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.

Note. May be juvenile of C. cruentatus.
