Diagnosis: coronal fossa on frontals closed in front of commissure between supra-orbital canals. First dorsal finrays 9-10, second dorsal finrays 53-59; anal finrays 44-49. Vertebrae 45-50. 119-148 scales in lateral line and about 11-13 scales between lateral line and first dorsal fin base. Colour: variable, reddish or dirty brown above, sides sometimes bronze coloured, lateral line pale. Size: to more than 100 cm SL, usually less than 70 cm.

Biology: same as U. chuss, but not exactly known.

Distribution: off southern and south-western coast of Iceland in the area. Elsewhere, western North Atlantic.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
