Diagnosis: head 34-35% of SL. Gillrakers 5-7 + 15-17. D III + 15-16, A I + 7-8, V I + 7. Origin of dorsal fin under third or fourth from last ray of dorsal fin. Insertion of pelvic fins slightly behind that of pectoral fins. Scale rows from nape to caudal base 32-35; diagonal rows from origin of dorsal fin 8. Colour: 6 longitudinal, wide, more or less faint darker stripes along sides of body. Size: about 10 cm SL (mature adults).

Habitat: bathypelagic, adults below 500 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: antitropical in the North Atlantic.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. Ebeling, 1962, fig. 23B (young), 23C (postlarva).
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
