Holtbyrnia Parr, 1937
Premaxillae with prominent tusks pointing forward; row of teeth on outer edge of lower jaw retained in adults. Origin of anal fin clearly behind that of dorsal fin (below about fifth to twelfth finray). Lateral line with about 50 enlarged, modified scales. Light organ always present on lower pectoral finrays, present elsewhere in some species.
Mesopelagic or bathypelagic to benthopelagic, down to about 3,000 m.
