Echinorhinus Blainville, 1816
Snout in front of mouth shorter than distance from mouth to level of pectoral fins. Pre-oral clefts short and not expanded inward. Teeth similar in both jaws, with several cusps, central cusp largest and directed outward. Pectoral fins brush-shaped, with broadly rounded outer corners; dorsal spines absent; caudal peduncle with pre-caudal pits but without lateral ridges; caudal fin without sub-terminal notch. Dermal denticles buckler-like, either simple with central cusp and radiating ridges, or compound with 2 or more cusps and radiating ridges.
