Diagnosis: spines only on belly and lower parts of head. Dorsal finrays 9-10; anal finrays 8-9; caudal fin slightly convex or concave. Colour: back brown with white dots on sides; blue lines radiate from eye; upper , and lower edges of caudal peduncle and fins black. Size: to about 1O cm SL.

Habitat: reefs, tide-pools and beds of sea-grass. Food: sea-grasses (maybe nearly 80% of diet) and invertebrates. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: from Madeira to Angola and Gulf of Mexico, West Indies and Bermuda.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
