Diagnosis: rings 16-18 + 33-39, D 33-41, P 11-13, total subdorsal rings 8-10. Snout length more than half head length, snout depth 6.3-7.8 in snout length; dorsolateral profile of head essentially linear, not clearly elevated behind eye. Colour: greyish; usually with blackish stripe on lateral ridge, sometimes with dark bars on body. Size: to 19 cm TL.

Habitat: euryhaline; mostly amongst detritus or vegetation over shallow muddy bottom. Food: no data. Reproduction: spring to early autumn.

Distribution: north-western Adriatic Sea (Venice-S. Benedetto del Tronto).
