Diagnosis: maximum body depth distinctly less than head length. Nostrils tubular. Lower pectoral fin lobe length distinctly less than head length. Disc not deeply cupped. Anus about one eye diameter behind disc. Dorsal finrays 54-55; anal finrays 45-46. Size: to at least 70 mm.

Habitat: depths from 200 to 1,000 m, on muddy bottoms. Food: benthic and pelagic crustaceans. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: Faroe Shetland Channel to Spitsbergen, Murmansk and northern Kara and Laptev Seas; throughout Barents Sea, and possibly throughout Norwegian Sea. One specimen from the Skagerrak. Elsewhere, eastern (St Lawrence estuary) and north-eastern (Richmond Gulf) Canada.
