Diagnosis: dorsal finrays 12-13 (11-14); anal finrays 13 (12-14); pectoral finrays 12-13. Gillrakers 3 (4) + 1 + 7-9, total 11-14. AO 3 (1-4) + 1 (2), total 4 (2-5). Size: to 80 mm.

Habitat: high-oceanic, bathypelagic: below 675 m, but with shallowest depth of capture at 400 m. No evidence of vertical migration. Food: no data. Reproduction: gravid females at 57-61 mm.

Distribution: widespread pattern, circumglobally between about 43° N and 68° S, but with one record south of the Antarctic Polar Front at 90° W.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
