Diagnosis: dorsal finrays 11-12; anal finrays 15-16; pectoral finrays 11-12. Gillrakers 3 + 1 + 8-9 (7-10), total 12-13 (11-14). Gillrakers 3 + 1 + 8-9 (7-10), total 12-13 (11-14). AO 6-7 (5-8) + 5-7, total 11-14 (10-15). Males with single large supra-caudal gland. Size: to 39 mm.

Habitat: high-oceanic, mesopelagic. Bermuda: night at 60-175 m and 800 m.

Distribution: rare. Atlantic: bitemperate pattern, probably between about 35 and 50° N and (?) in Mauritanian upwelling region; in eastern South Atlantic in region of Subtropical Convergence. Elsewhere: southern Indian and Pacific Oceans.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
