Diagnosis: snout to origin of dorsal fin 23.0% TL, to origin of anal fin 29.0% TL, and to origin of dorsolateral white lines 8.2% TL. Pectoral finrays 44. No dorsolateral filaments on trunk and tail. Caudal organ short, oval, without filaments and anterior isolated spots of photogenic tissue. Colour: black. Size: 30.5 cm TL.

Habitat, Food and Reproduction: probably as in S. ampullaceus.

Distribution: only known specimen caught west of Madeira.
