Diagnosis: long and slender body. Rostral spine weak or absent. Anterior gill arch with 4 elongate rakers. Dorsal finrays 127-135, anal finrays 100-110. Colour: brownish; fins red. Size: to about 250 mm SL.

Habitat: on the deeper parts of the continental shelf. Food: no data. Reproduction: oviparous.

Distribution: western Mediterranean, from Gibraltar to the Adriatic Sea.
