Diagnosis: anterior edge of small, paired, basibranchial tooth patches not reaching posterior tip of anterior median patch. Dorsal finrays 110; anal finrays 89-92; pectoral finrays 20. Colour: body red-brown, head bluish-grey, pectoral fins dark brown. Size: to about 270 mm SL.

Habitat: known from 2,603 to 4,261 m depth. Food: no data. Reproduction: oviparous.

Distribution: one specimen from the area (off the Azores). Elsewhere one from south of the Canaries and one from the Caribbean Sea.
