Diagnosis. predorsal length 28-30.5% SL. Dorsal finrays 93-116; anal finrays 61-68; pectoral finrays 17-18. Caudal vertebrae 50-53. Colour: peritoneum dark blue, visible through pale body wall. Size: to about 150 mm SL.

Habitat: on or near bottom at bathyal and abyssal depths (1,074-1,170 m in the area). Food: no data. Reproduction: viviparous.

Distribution: one specimen from the area (the Azores: 37°40' N, 25°15.5' W). Elsewhere, rather few specimens known from all oceans.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (saggitta). No data.
