Accepted name: Pachycara microcephalum (Jensen, 1902) (updated 2009-06-25)

Diagnosis: body elongate, its depth 8% TL at anal origin, covered with scales up to tip of pectoral fin, but back and belly naked. Pectoral finrays 15; preanal distance 39% TL. Lateral line not yet properly developed at 8 cm TL (probably midlateral), and large pores still present in infra-orbital and mandibulo - preopercular canals. Colour: uniformly light, yellowish, without bands or spots, blue-black on belly; peritoneum black. Size: 8 cm (single juvenile known).

Habitat: benthic on muddy bottoms at 1,462 m, with bottom temperature 4.5 °C. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: to south-west of Iceland (single known specimen).

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data except the holotype.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
