Diagnosis: body elongate, its depth 7.3-9.9 %SL at anal origin, covered with scales posteriorly of the midpoint of body (smallest specimens scaleless), dorsal and anal fins naked. Upper angle of operculum with an elongate lobe. Pectoral finrays 16-19. Preanal distance 39.0-44.5%SL. 20-30 scale rows between bases of anal and dorsal fins. Lateral line single, ventral. Vertebrae 97-104 (precaudal 19-21). Colour: uniformly light brown, fins and head somewhat darker, peritoneum black-brown. Size: to 23 cm. Habitat: benthic on soft bottoms at (527)1283-1380 m, with bottom temperatures below O C (-0.2 to -0.4 C) in Greenland Sea, but at positive temperatures (3.5-3.7 C) ln Davis Strait. Food: crustacians. Reproduction: ripe females recorded in September; eggs demersal, to 3 mm in diameter.

Distribution: eastern central coast of Greenland (68° 49'N 19° 44'W to 71° 04 N 18° 54'W) and western central coast of Greenlamd in Davis Strait (68° 23'N 56° 06'W, 69° 42'N 60° 03'W (Nielsen, Fossa, 1993)
