Diagnosis: body elongate, its depth 5=6% TL at anal origin, covered with scales except on belly and on back before dorsal fin. Dorsal fin origin over middle of pectoral fin; the latter about 10-11% TL; preanal distance about 30-32% TL. Lateral line double, with midlateral and ventral branches. Vertebrae 116-119. Colour: yellowish, with numerous dark brown spots and patches, extending also onto dorsal fin; 60 peritoneum black. Size: to 20 cm.
Habitat: benthic on sandy and muddy bottoms with stones at 200-1400 m, with temperatures of —0.5 to -0.9 °C. Food: small bivalves (Yoldiella). Reproduction: no data.
Distribution. northern part of eastern Greenland (72° 25' N to 80° 32' N), also to the north of Novaya Zemlya. Elsewhere, northern part of Kara Sea, north-western coast of Greenland (69° 30' N to 78° 14' N) and in Hudson Strait, Canada (McAllister 1990)
