Diagnosis: body depressed, depth 5.5-6.8 (m = 5.9) times in SL; well-developed spatulate snout. Membrane of dorsal and anal fins broadly connected to caudal fin. Flattened papillae in 3-4 rows across width of disc region A, 3-5 rows across disc region B. Dorsal finrays 16-19 (m = 17); anal finrays 9-11; pectoral finrays 20-23 (m = 21); caudal finrays 16-19 (m = 17). Length of disc 3.2-3.6 (m = 3.4) times in SL. Colour: much red pigment in a variety of patterns. Size: to 65 mm SL.

Habitat, Food, Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: eastern and central Mediterranean westward to Monaco; possibly in Black Sea.

Eggs, larvae, and young stages. No data.
