Diagnosis: a large fish with a rather short snout. Depth of caudal peduncle 1.0-1.7 (m= 1.2) times in its length. Eyes 0.6-1.0 (m = 0.8) : times in bony inter-orbital space and 3.2-5.7 (m = 4.0) times in head. Dorsal finrays 5-8 (m = 6); anal finrays 4-7 (m = 6); pectoral finrays 21-26 (m = 23). Length of disc 3.2-4.8 (m = 4.1) times in SL. Colour: carmine red with an intensified spot on each side of body. Size: to about 40 mm SL.
