Diagnosis: chin barbel present. First dorsal fin with one or more notably elongate rays; second dorsal finrays 51-54; anal finrays 46-49; pectoral finrays 28-30. Oblique scale rows between lateral line and first dorsal about 15. Colour: oral cavity light grey-brown. Size: to 35 cm SL.

Habitat: benthopelagic on the continental slope; caught rarely on longlines at Madeira but most probably living close to the bottom. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: verified records only from Madeira. Records from the West African coast are apparently other species.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
