Diagnosis: body fairly stout, but tapering rapidly behind trunk; head about one-fifth of body length. Snout almost vertical at tip, the height 10% or less of head length; upper profile of head concave over eye, but humped thereafter to dorsal fin; inter-orbital broad, about one-quarter head length; mouth subterminal and large, premaxilla 46-49% head length; chin barbel small, less than eye diameter, 5-9% head length. First dorsal fin with 9-10 finrays, second dorsal fin beginning behind vertical from anal fin origin; pectoral fin with 18-19 finrays; pelvic fin with 9 finrays, its insertion below or slightly behind pectoral fin base (the latter slightly before first dorsal fin origin), outer finray a little elongated. Scales present on snout (no naked areas above or below leading edge). Colour: brownish, mouth bluish, gill cavity and peritoneum black. Size: to 76.7 cm TL.
Habitat: benthopelagic at 4,255-4,877 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.
Distribution: Atlantic, south of Madeira and off Bay of Biscay.
