Diagnosis: a moderately large three-bearded rockling, the head rather narrow. Second dorsal finrays 60; anal finrays 52. Vertebrae 44. Colour: back brown, with creamy reticulations on head; a pale longitudinal band along second dorsal fin and another paler but broader sinuous band along upper flank; lower flank and belly cream. Size: to 36 cm SL.

Habitat: probably lives on rough ground at 20-50 m; not commonly caught. Food: only palaemonid prawns recorded. Reproduction: no data; no young stages described.

Distribution: known only from the Azores and the Canaries.
