Diagnosis: second dorsal finrays 47-56, usually 50 54; anal finrays 49-58 (52-53). Vertebrae 50-55 (52-53). Colour: entire body pigmented, cells more densely distributed on dorsum. Size: to 6 cm SL.

Habitat: oceanic. Food and Reproduction: see family.

Distribution: circumtropical. In the area one questionable record from the Mediterranean.
