Diagnosis: snout to origin of dorsal and anal fins 67-69% SL, caudal peduncle 12% SL. D 28-33; A 23-29; P about 20; V 9-10. Size: to 35 mm.

Habitat: larvae and adolescents epipelagic, except for largest specimen which was caught between 700 and 1,400 m. Food: stomach contents copepods. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: several specimens from Clofnam area south of about 35° N. Elsewhere, tropical and subtropical parts of Atlantic and western Indian Ocean.
