Diagnosis: very elongate body, snout to origin of dorsal and anal fins | about 75% SL; length of caudal peduncle about 10% SL; maximum observed length of caudal streamer about three times SL. D 16-19; A 16-19; P 19-24; V 4-5. Size: to 53 mm.

Habitat: Iarvae and adolescents epipelagic. Food: copepods. Reproduction: adults unknown.

Distribution: four specimens recorded from Clofnam area south of 35° N. Elsewhere, tropical and subtropical parts of all oceans.
