Diagnosis: head 36-45% of SL. Eye 2.1-4.4% of SL. Gillrakers 5-7 + 15-19. D II+III + 10-13; A I + 7-9. Origin of anal fin under second to third ray from last ray of dorsal fin. Size: to 2.5-7.3 cm SL (mature specimens).
Habitat: bathypelagic; adults below 500-600 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.
Distribution: almost cosmopolitan, not occurring in the Arctic Ocean and the Mediterranean.
