Diagnosis: head 33-36% of SL. Gillrakers 3 4 + 11-12. D III + 14-15, A I + 8. Origin of anal fin well behind last ray of dorsal fin. Pelvic fins well behind insertion of pectoral fins. Scale rows from nape to caudal base 29-32; diagonal rows from origin of dorsal fin 8. Size: about 7-8 cm SL (adults).

Habitat: bathypelagic, upper limit 500-600 m. Madeiran specimens in MMF collection from stomachs of Aphanopus carbo. The latter is caught on lines bearing hooks from 1,000 m down to 1,600 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: North Atlantic.
