Diagnosis: head 38-40% of SL. Gillrakers 6-7 + 16-18. D III + 16-18 A I + 7-8; V I + 8. Origin of anal fin under last ray of dorsal fin, peivic fins under or slightly behind insertion of pectoral fins. Scale rows from nape to caudal base 32-35; diagonal rows from origin of dorsal fin 8. Size: probably about 10 cm (adults).

Habitat: bathypelagic; the adult holotype was taken at over 2,500 m depth; one post-larva was trawled in 300 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: antitropical in Atlantic Ocean.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. Ebeling, 1962, fig. 17B (postlarvae).
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
