Diagnosis: differs from B. belone in a group of characters that may be functionally related to feeding. Vomerine teeth absent. Jaw teeth comparatively small and closely spaced (13-21 in a distance equal to an orbit's length on middle of upper jaw). Dorsal finrays 16-19; anal finrays 20-23; pectoral finrays 11-13. Gillrakers 38-52 on first arch. Vertebrae 75-83. Morphometrically similar to B. belone but has more compressed body and narrower inter-orbital width. Size: to 41 cm BL, which equals about 57 cm SL.

Habitat: epipelagic, neritic. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: restricted to southern North- eastern Atlantic (southern Ireland, Spain, Portugal, (?)Cape Verde Islands) and the Mediterranean.

Eggs, larvae and young stages. No data.
Otoliths (sagitta). No data.
