Diagnosis: head only very slightly depressed; eye moderate, less than 3 times in snout; first tooth at front of upper jaw minute; third upper tooth followed by only one much smaller tooth; teeth with only one cusplet on each side of the base of main cusp. Origin of second dorsal fin a little before middle of pelvic fin base and ending a little before anal fin origin; anal fin rather smaller than second dorsal fin. Colour: uniform dark mauve-brown, slightly lighter towards the snout; posterior margins of all fins darker; iris dark brown with some lighter tones. Size: 1.71 m (holotype).

Habitat: the only known specimen caught between 800 and 1,000 m. Food: no data. Reproduction: no data.

Distribution: known only off Madeira.
