Diagnosis: body fusiform, trunk rather slender; snout long and rather pointed; teeth slender, rather large at their base, smooth-edged, without lateral cusplets, alike in both jaws; anterior teeth greatly enlarged in both jaws, cusps recurved at base but not reversed at tips. First dorsal fin with apex bluntly rounded. Pectoral fins about as long as head, straight to falcate; anal fin origin about below posterior end of second dorsal fin base; caudal keel extending well on to caudal fin. Colour: intense blue above, white on belly; not dusky below snout and around the mouth. Size: to about 2.9 m.
Habitat: pelagic; little-known. Food: no data. Reproduction: ovoviviparous, number of young 2; size at birth at least 92 cm; males adult at 245 cm, females at 245-283 cm.
Distribution: south-western coasts of Spain and Portugal and off Morocco, probably in the Mediterranean. Elsewhere, warmer waters of Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
