Body slightly compressed, inflatable. Beak without median sutures. Gill openings small. Large, strong spines scattered all over body. Fins without spiny rays; dorsal and anal fins short, placed opposite each other on posterior part of body; pelvic fins absent; caudal peduncle short, fin rounded. Benthic or in connection with floating seaweed in tropical and subtropical seas. Solitary, slow swimmers. Feed on sea-urchins, molluscs and crustaceans.
