Genus Micrenophrys

Micrenophrys Andriashev, 1954

Body with a complete but irregular row of acute prickles along dorsal fin bases. Head without bony granulations, post-ocular protuberances very small or absent, occipital protuberances paired and low; gill membranes widely adhering to isthmus, without a fold across it; no slit behind fourth gill arch. Pelvic finrays I + 2. Lateral line pores 30-31, anterior scales with only 1 bony spine. Males with small conical urogenital papilla. Vertebrae 32.
Small benthic fishes of tide-pools or inshore. Feed on small crustaceans and fishes. Spawn in early spring; eggs demersal, larvae pelagic.
