Genus Monochirus

Monochirus Rafinesque, 1814

Anterior nostril on blind side not enlarged. Dorsal fin beginning on upper profile of head; pectoral fin on eyed side with 5-6 finrays, all unbranched, on blind side absent. Supra-temporal branch of lateral line not visible. Scales more or less trapezoid with intercanalicular striae of the Solea type, see Fig. 2 in family diagnosis.
