Pleuronectiformes

Pleuronectiformes have in adults both eyes on one side of the head. Strongly compressed fishes. Pectoral fins usually present. Pelvic fins are thoracic or jugular and have 5-13 soft rays. 6-7 branchiostegal rays. The mouth is protractible. The teeth on the premaxilla may be strong. Usually no swim bladder and the visceral cavity is reduced.
