Genus Sillago

Sillago Cuvier, 1816

Snout and head pointed, not depressed. Teeth in jaws in broad villiform bands, densely packed; similar teeth but smaller on vomer. Dorsal spines 10-12, first spine higher than the longest ray; soft dorsal and anal subequal; pelvic fin beneath pectoral fins and in front of dorsal fin. Scales moderately small, 50-84 in lateral line.

Species about 20, distributed widely in Indo-Pacific; in Clofnam area 1 (restricted to eastern Mediterranean).
