Genus Bathyonus

Bathyonus Goode and Bean, 1886

A slender body with tapering caudal part. Length of head about twice in preanal length. Opercular spine weak. Two median basibranchial tooth patches. Lower pectoral finrays free and longer than those above; pelvic fins with 2 rays in each.
Known from bathyal and abyssal depths (1,785-4,775 m). Oviparous.
Species 3; in Clofnam area 1.
