Genus Plectorhinchus

Plectorhinchus Lacepède, 1801

6 pores on chin but no median groove behind. Preopercle straight, serrated. Preorbital wide. Mouth oblique, maxilla not reaching front of orbit. Teeth in jaws pointed, in several rows, on upper jaw outer series slightly enlarged. Dorsal spines 11-14, the second the longest; soft dorsal base about equal to or much less than spinous dorsal base. Scales small, 80-85 in lateral line.
