Silhouettea Smith, 1959

Type-species: Silhouettea insinuans Smith, 1959

Sub-orbital papillae with row a around lower edge of orbit; rows a and c, including cp, without transverse proliferation; rows b and c very long, ending anteriorly below anterior border of eye. Anterior and posterior oculoscapular, and preopercular head canals present, but not expanded and without numerous extra pores. Anterior oculoscapular canal extends on to snout. Predorsal area and head naked. Anterior nostril a short tube, lacking process from rim. Pectoral fin uppermost rays within membrane. Pelvic disc complete, anterior membrane with villose rear edge. First dorsal rays VI. Vertebral mode 26. Scales ctenoid, 24-28 in lateral series.
Small Indo-Pacific species, one of which has entered Suez Canal and Bardawil Lagoon (Sinai).
