Genus Monishia

Sub-orbital papillae with 7 transverse rows, 4 before, and 1 lower part below, longitudinal row b. No row a. Anterior and posterior oculoscapular and preopercular head canals present. Predorsal area and head naked. Anterior nostril tubular, with lappet or tentacle, to as long as tube, from posterior rim. Pectoral fin uppermost rays free. Pelvic disc complete, anterior membrane without pronounced lateral lobes. First dorsal rays VI. Scales ctenoid, 26-43 in lateral series. Vertebrae 27.
Small species from the Indian Ocean.

Species about 5; in Clofnam area 1.
