Genus Chiasmodon

Chiasmodon Johnson, 1863

Teeth in two series on each jaw, those of inner series fewer, much larger, slightly curved, with lancet-shaped heads; teeth of outer series more numerous, shorter, more slender. Anteriormost pair of inner series on premaxillary and dentary more strongly curved than other inner series teeth. One series of teeth on palatines. Small, but numerous prickles covering sides of body in specimens up to about 35 mm SL. Lateral line with 2 pores per segment. No photophores. Branchiostegal rays 7. Vertebrae 43 48.
